*NRV = Nutrient Reference Value as established by EU Regulation (EC) No 1169/2011 as retained in UK law. Daily dose = 1 capsule. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. This product is a food supplement, not a medicine. Nutrient function claims are made in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 as retained in UK law.
1. Why we chose these five nutrients
Prenatal Complete was formulated around five nutrients that are commonly discussed in the context of a daily prenatal-style nutritional routine: folate, iron, omega-3 DHA, vitamin D3 and iodine. Rather than including a long list of nutrients at low, token quantities, we chose to concentrate the formulation on these five, at the specific levels shown in the dosage table above, so that the label remains easy to read and each nutrient's contribution to the Nutrient Reference Value is clear at a glance.
2. Folate (B9) as methylfolate
The folate in Prenatal Complete is provided as methylfolate, also known as 5-MTHF, at 400 micrograms per capsule, equivalent to 200% of the Nutrient Reference Value. Methylfolate is a form of folate that does not require the same metabolic conversion step as folic acid, which is why some formulations, including this one, use it in preference to folic acid. We describe this as a factual point about the ingredient form rather than as a claim about any particular outcome.
3. Iron as bisglycinate
Iron is included at 14 milligrams per capsule, equivalent to 100% of the Nutrient Reference Value, in the bisglycinate form. Iron bisglycinate is a chelated form that is widely used in UK food supplements. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 as retained in UK law, iron contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism; these claims refer to the nutrient itself, not to Prenatal Complete as a whole.
4. Omega-3 DHA from marine algae
Each capsule provides 200 milligrams of DHA sourced from marine algae rather than fish oil, which makes the product suitable for people following a vegetarian diet. Algae-derived DHA is produced by cultivating specific marine algae strains under controlled conditions, rather than extracting oil from fish tissue, and is a widely used source of DHA in vegetarian and vegan-labelled food supplements across the UK market.
5. Vitamin D3 as cholecalciferol
Vitamin D3 is included at 15 micrograms per capsule, equivalent to 300% of the Nutrient Reference Value, in the cholecalciferol form. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 as retained in UK law, vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Cholecalciferol is the form most commonly found in UK food supplements and is chemically distinct from ergocalciferol (vitamin D2), which some other products use instead.
6. Iodine as potassium iodide
Iodine is provided at 150 micrograms per capsule, equivalent to 100% of the Nutrient Reference Value, in the form of potassium iodide. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 as retained in UK law, iodine contributes to normal production of thyroid hormones. Because iodine intake needs vary by individual circumstance, anyone with a diagnosed thyroid condition should consult a GP or another qualified healthcare professional before taking any iodine-containing food supplement.
7. The capsule shell itself
The outer shell of each capsule is made from HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), a plant-derived material, rather than gelatine, which makes Prenatal Complete suitable for vegetarians. The formulation is gluten-free and contains no added sugar. The shell is designed to dissolve reliably after swallowing, releasing the nutrient blend contained inside during normal digestion.
- Vegetarian HPMC capsule shell, not gelatine-based.
- Gluten-free formulation.
- No added sugar in the capsule fill or shell.
- 60 capsules per pack, one capsule per day.
8. What is not in Prenatal Complete
Prenatal Complete does not contain any botanical extracts, added colourants, or artificial sweeteners. We have deliberately kept the formulation focused on the five core nutrients listed in the dosage table, rather than adding further ingredients that would not carry an authorised nutrient claim and would only lengthen the label without adding clarity. If our formulation changes in the future, the updated ingredient list and any relevant claims will be published on this page in advance of the change taking effect.
9. How the % NRV figures are calculated
The percentages shown in the final column of the dosage table are calculated against the Nutrient Reference Values set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, as retained in UK law following the UK's withdrawal from the European Union. These reference values represent an amount considered appropriate for the general adult population and are the standard basis used across UK food supplement labelling; they are not personalised to any individual's specific nutritional requirements.
| Term | Meaning as used on this page |
|---|---|
| NRV | Nutrient Reference Value, the standard UK/EU reference amount for adults |
| Per capsule | The amount contained in a single daily dose (one capsule) |
| Chelated | A mineral bound to an organic molecule, such as bisglycinate iron |
“We would rather list five nutrients clearly, with exact quantities and the correct authorised wording, than list fifteen and blur the label into something no one actually reads.”— Grendova formulation notes
